humbly Nilgiris
The Nilgiri tea is truly an undiscovered gem of the tea world. Nilgiris may not be a household name, but take your favourite black tea blend, chances are there is Nilgiris tea in there! Considered a blender’s dream, high grown Nilgiri teas can enhance any blend by giving it extra body and strength. But rather than guessing what’s in your cup, why not go straight for the real deal?!
in the beginning was tea
All our teas come from the Nilgiri region in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in the mountain range within the Western Ghats. Our vision is to be a single stop shop for all tea and things Nilgiris
We used to travel to the mountains every year and we stricken by the beauty of the landscapes, the slow and simple lifestyle and the number of tea plantations all around us. We visited tea estates and homesteads and tasted the freshest and most flavourful teas we had ever had. However, when we returned home, we couldn’t find any of the Nilgiris teas we grew to love. We couldn’t stand the idea that some of the world’s best teas are going unnoticed and are not reaching the people who could enjoy them just like we do.
This is how the idea of GavaTea was born: to bring the teas we love to the people we love
whole leaf quality
The quality and size of the leaf play an important role in the taste of the tea and the level of health benefits it delivers. Whole leaf tea is minimally processed and retains its complex flavour, deep aroma and healing properties.
Watching the leaves unfurl will take you back to the origin and reveal the story of this magical beverage.
the taste
We select the best teas in season when the quality of the leaves, the taste and aroma are at their prime. The teas that pass our selection process are distinct in their body, character and taste and are ultimately fresh.
Our teas are produced in small batches using artisanal machines or hands to shape the delicate leaves and seal the aroma.
our sources
Our teas come from the finest tea estates in the Nilgiris. We have long standing relationships with each tea farm and estate and personally select, taste and blend our teas.
Our partners believe in sustainable agriculture and ethical manufacturing methods and don’t use artificial fertilisers or pesticides. Sunshine, rain water, clean mountain air and caring hands is all you need to grow exceptional tea.
